Pancakes For Claire 2010

On November 14, 2010 the annual Pancakes for Claire breakfast was held at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church. This event has been going on since 2003 as a means to grow the Claire Renee Goudeau scholarship fund that was established in May of 2001. This fund was established to honor Claire's memory by dedicating all  of the donated  funds towards scholarships for tuition and fees to St. Jean Vianney Catholic School.

At least one award is presented annually to a fourth grade student upon entering the fifth grade. The award is based on personal characteristics including love of school, love of others, and commitment to excellence in school and personal life. In addition to the scholarship the student(s) are presented with an engraved crystal cross donated by Southern Crafts and a gift certificate donated by School Time for a school uniform.

Baton Rouge Beach Marathon

The Fitbird's came out in a strong show of support for their team members that were running in the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon and Half-Marathon today. We were lucky enough to be asked to volunteer at the finish line and were able to hand out medals to all the athletes that competed in the race. It was a great opportunity to show the public what a strong team we are, as well as share our enthusiasm for all the participants who were running.

The Second Annual Fitbird Tailgate Ride!

September 18, 2010

For the second year in a row, the Fitbirds have taken to the LSU campus for their annual Tailgate Ride. For those that don't know, the Tailgate Ride tradition began one year ago after a group training ride on the levee. Tired and thirsty, the group rode around campus until they came upon the early morning game day setup of one of their team member's nephews. As the tents and cooler had been left unattended, it was a unanimous decision that this favorite nephew would want his auntie and her friends to imbibe in a cold one (or two). Beers were chugged and the training ride was finished with grins all around. It was not until later that we learned that we had commandeered the wrong tailgate cooler and had stolen (borrowed) an innocent tailgater's beer. In true Fitbird fashion, the beer was replaced with an additional beer donation for the mistake, and the story went down in Fitbird history.

Euroland Cystic Fibrosis Cycle For Life

As members of Fitbird Fitness, when rallied by one of our own, we respond. McCall Dempsey initiated the plea for help to raise funds for a great cause that could someday help the daughter of a dear family friend that has been affected by this disease. Offering us the opportunity to come together as a team, cycle the beautiful countryside of St. Francisville, and raise money for a good cause seemed to be all it took for her to organize the largest cycling team for this inaugural local event.

Change is Coming...!

We have just returned from the inaugural Fitbird Fitness Training Camp in Santa Rosa, FL and already we have picked up some new fledglings to our group! Welcome to ME, Sandra, and Jan! We are excited to have you as one of our team and look forward to many fun training sessions in the future!

Fitbird continues to grow and with it we are beginning to get more publicity. Rocketchix has given us support by including our website information in their recent newsletter, and hopefully the link to our training camp report will help recruit some more members as well. Anne is preparing some new classes for the fall to provide us with some variety in our training and she is constantly working on expanding her programs to reach as many different levels of athletes as she can.
